Onion prices surge as fuel and transport costs hit consumers

Onion prices have risen sharply, with vegetable traders attributing the increase partly to higher fuel and transportation costs. MLT Shankar of the Villupuram District Vegetable Merchants' Association said transport expenses were a major factor behind rising vegetable prices. Consumers have also expressed concern, saying the higher onion prices are making it difficult to afford other vegetables within the same budget, and have urged the government to take steps to control the price rise.
