Leaking roofs, falling plaster: Inside a crumbling MP government school

A government middle school in Khurpar village of Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district is raising serious concerns over school infrastructure, student safety, and monsoon damage. With leaking roofs, cracked ceilings, and falling plaster, students say attending classes has become frightening instead of educational.

Every monsoon, rainwater pours into classrooms, leaving floors waterlogged while chunks of debris fall from the ceiling. Children fear the weakened roof could collapse at any moment.

Teachers say the building has become so unsafe that classes are shifted to the local Fair Price shop whenever heavy rain makes the classrooms unusable. Students from different grades are often forced to study together in a single room.

District education officials acknowledge the school's poor condition and say a repair proposal has already been submitted. Renovation work, they add, will begin once government funds are approved.

Until then, students and teachers continue to hope for safe classrooms where education comes before survival.
