Three Kozhikode temples unite to help 1,000 flood-hit families. Here's how

As floodwaters continue to recede in parts of Kerala's Kozhikode district, families displaced by the recent rains have begun returning to their homes, only to find the extent of the damage left behind.

In a community-led relief effort, three temple committees have come together to distribute essential supplies to around 1,000 households affected by the flooding. The initiative is being carried out jointly by the Vengeri Subramanya Temple, Sree Sakaleshwari Temple and Sarpakkavu Malikkadavu Temple.

A member of one of the temple committees said volunteers had been visiting affected homes to offer both support and immediate relief.

"Nearly 1,000 houses have either been inundated or are facing difficulties because of the flooding. So, the Vengeri Subramanya Temple, Sree Sakaleshwari Temple and Sarpakkavu Malikkadavu Temple have jointly been visiting all the affected houses, assuring them that we are with them and offering them some essential items they urgently need," the temple committee member said.

The relief kits include bread, biscuits, drinking water and other basic necessities for families returning to their homes after the flooding.

Residents who received the assistance said they were still coping with the aftermath of the rains and the damage caused by the floodwaters.

"Because of the flooding, we have been facing a lot of difficulties," a local resident said.

When asked whether the family had been forced to move elsewhere, the resident replied, "Yes, we have had to move. Water has entered our cars and other belongings as well."

The one-day door-to-door distribution of the relief kits began on Wednesday evening, with volunteers visiting affected households across the area.
