Kamakhya temple reopens after Ambubachi mela 2026; Lakhs of devotees gather in Guwahati

The revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati reopened on Friday after remaining closed for three days during the annual Ambubachi Mela 2026, drawing lakhs of devotees from across India. The festival marks the symbolic annual menstruation period of Goddess Kamakhya and is considered one of the country’s most significant spiritual events.

Devotees queued overnight to offer prayers as temple authorities ensured smooth crowd management and peaceful darshan arrangements. Visitors described the experience as deeply spiritual and praised the administration for maintaining order during the massive gathering. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya also visited the temple and offered prayers. Held every year, the four-day Ambubachi Mela concludes with the reopening of the temple doors, symbolising renewal, devotion and divine blessings for devotees.
