Jos Buttler eyes IPL comeback with Gujarat Titans after T20 World Cup slump

England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler is hoping a short break from cricket will help him bounce back from a difficult T20 World Cup as he prepares to join Gujarat Titans for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).

Buttler struggled for consistency during the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, scoring only 87 runs in eight innings at an average of 10.87. His strike rate of 116 was also below his usual aggressive standards, marking a rare dip for one of England’s premier white-ball batters.

Despite the prolonged slump, the former England captain retained the confidence of the team management, reflecting his experience and past contributions to the side.

England’s campaign came to an end in the semifinal against India in Mumbai, where they were knocked out in a high-scoring contest earlier this month.

Following the tournament, Buttler stepped away from the game, a decision he believes has worked in his favour. The 35-year-old said the time off allowed him to recharge mentally and reflect on his performances, leaving him refreshed ahead of a busy IPL season.

He will now look to make an impact with Gujarat Titans, the IPL 2022 champions, who begin their campaign on March 31 against Punjab Kings in an away fixture.
