Jharkhand Class 10 topper with cerebral palsy writes with mouth, inspires with 93.8% score
A student from Jharkhand, who writes using his mouth due to severe physical disability, has topped the Class 10 board examinations in the specially-abled category, highlighting a remarkable story of perseverance and academic achievement.
Mohd Faizan, who suffers from 100% cerebral palsy, secured 93.8% in the Jharkhand Class 10 board exams. Despite his top position among specially-abled students, Faizan said he had expected a higher score but was limited by his condition.
“I beleived I would score 96%, but because of certain challenges, such as the fact that I write using my mouth, and that my hands don't work properly, I couldn't. I have 100% cerebral palsy. So there were several questions that I couldn't answer properly,” Faizan said. He explained that subjects involving diagrams and map-based questions were particularly difficult for him, which impacted his performance.
"I am happy, not sad. I just wish I could have scored more and attained a rank among other regular students; it would have been even better,” he added.
Faizan also shared that his teacher informed him that it is the first time in nearly 25 years in Jharkhand that a specially-abled student has topped the board examinations, making the achievement even more significant.
His father expressed pride in his son’s success, calling it a moment of great happiness for the family. He added that he will continue to support Faizan in his academic journey and higher education plans.
Despite his challenges, Faizan is now aiming higher. He plans to appear for the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations and hopes to clear them on his first attempt, with ambitions of joining the civil services.
Faizan has also expressed a wish to meet Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, crediting state initiatives such as home-based education support for helping him continue his studies despite his disability.
