Inside Surat's ₹12 lakh hydraulic Jagannath Rath built for 2026 Yatra

Surat is set to witness a unique blend of devotion and innovation during the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, as ISKCON Surat introduces a ₹12 lakh hydraulic Rath equipped with power steering and an adjustable hydraulic lift. Built in Mumbai over one and a half months by 15 artisans, the modern chariot replaces the traditional wooden Rath that served devotees for the past 25 years.

The technologically advanced chariot will carry Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra during the grand procession, offering greater flexibility and safety while preserving the spiritual significance of the centuries-old festival.

Adding to the celebrations, the three deities will be adorned in specially crafted ₹3 lakh silk garments from Vrindavan, featuring intricate pure zari embroidery. Created by 10 artisans over 15 days, the ceremonial attire will be unveiled during the deities' darshan.

The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra will be celebrated across India on July 16, drawing thousands of devotees in vibrant religious processions.
