India Post introduces waterproof envelopes and Speed Post discounts for Raksha Bandhan

To ensure safe delivery during the monsoon season ahead of Raksha Bandhan, India Post has introduced specially designed waterproof envelopes across post offices nationwide. Available for ₹10, these durable covers protect rakhi parcels from rain damage during transit. To further support women sending greetings to their brothers, the postal department is offering a 10 per cent discount on Speed Post delivery charges for rakhi consignments.

Purushottam Das, Superintendent at the Head Post Office in Barabanki, confirmed that the facility is accessible across all head, sub, and branch post offices. He added that special arrangements have been established for handling both bookings and deliveries, with postal centers remaining operational on Sunday to handle the holiday rush.

The initiative has drawn strong praise from female customers who previously faced issues with water-damaged mail. Local resident Krishna Devi highlighted the practical benefit of the government's intervention, stating:

"My brother lives in Sitapur, and I send him a rakhi every year, but often the rakhi parcels used to get wet in the rain. Now, the Government of India has introduced waterproof envelopes that can be used to send rakhis. Additionally, women get a 10 per cent discount on these envelopes. I would like to thank the government for this initiative. It is a very commendable step."

Fellow resident Neerja Verma echoed similar sentiments, praising the combination of low-cost protective packaging and discounted postal tariffs. (PTI)
