Hajipur: The Hajipur assembly constituency is witnessing heightened political activity as parties gear up for Bihar Assembly elections. While campaigning intensifies, local issues are expected to play a major role in shaping voter decisions.

Residents of Hajipur have cited development, education, healthcare, and infrastructure as their primary concerns. Many also see high potential in the region’s industrial corridor, though they feel progress has been slow.

Voter frustration over slow development

A local resident said, "The elections have been announced...there are many burning issues in Hajipur. For example, there are problems with roads in the urban areas, and while many development works have taken place, such as the establishment of quite a few well-known industrial units in Hajipur, however, there are still some problems like traffic issues and problems with drains and roads in many places. The biggest issue is that the industrial area in Hajipur, although it is quite large, has not developed to the extent it should have."

Residents expressed frustration over the lack of progress, stressing the need for a candidate who can deliver real change. "There has been no development in Hajipur for the past 20 years, and nothing has been done till now. We will vote for the one who actually does some work now....The main issue is development, especially construction of roads, even a little bit of rain causes waterlogging on the streets. People face a lot of problems. There has been absolutely no development in the Hajipur assembly constituency," another resident noted.

Healthcare concerns persist

Healthcare also remains a concern for many voters, with some criticising the health card scheme. A resident stated, "The health card given by the Prime Minister has a lot of flaws, and doctors are involved in malpractice. The card doesn't help with proper treatment, and medical care is not adequate. Many poor people are dying, and overcharging happens. The government is not paying attention to this."

Support for Nitish-led development

Some residents expressed satisfaction with the Nitish-led government, citing visible development and ongoing welfare schemes. One resident said, "We will vote for Nitish Kumar because development has happened here – such as free electricity, scholarships for children have been doubled, and Rs 10,000 has been deposited in accounts of all women. Because of all this, we are happy with Nitish Kumar..."

The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results scheduled for November 14.
