FIFA World Cup 2026: Kerala has transformed into a football carnival

Kerala has once again emerged as India's football capital as FIFA World Cup 2026 fever sweeps across the state. Villages and towns are decked out in the colours of Argentina, Brazil and Portugal, with giant banners, towering cut-outs and vibrant fan zones drawing attention ahead of football's biggest tournament.

In Malappuram's Munda, football fans have turned entire neighbourhoods into celebration zones. Supporters gather for friendly debates, community screenings and banner battles, with Brazil fans unveiling a 400-foot banner and Argentina supporters preparing an even larger 600-foot display.

The excitement extends to Palakkad, where a Brazil supporter has painted his house in the team's iconic colours, and to Kochi, where football enthusiasts have transformed the Eloor waterfront into a vibrant fan destination.

Despite India's absence from the World Cup, local fans are cheering for Qatar's Tahsin Mohammad, whose family roots trace back to Kerala, adding a special local connection to the global spectacle.
