Delhi rains trigger severe waterlogging, traffic chaos across city

New Delhi: Heavy rain lashed Delhi on Monday, leaving several parts of the capital waterlogged and causing major traffic disruptions. Waist-deep water was reported in areas including Sangam Vihar and Sadar Bazar, while Kamla Nagar and Mahadev Roads were also submerged.

Key stretches such as Mathura Road, Connaught Place, ITO, Bhairon Marg, Lutyens’ Delhi and the Zakhira underpass witnessed waterlogging and traffic snarls. Janakpuri recorded the highest rainfall at 67 mm, followed by Chhatarpur at 57 mm and Pitampura at 35 mm, according to data available till 1.15 pm.

The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph expected in parts of the city. Visuals from across Delhi showed commuters and pedestrians wading through flooded roads as the downpour disrupted normal life.
