Agra’s shoe industry prepares for major push at Italy’s Expo Riva Schuh 2025
Agra’s footwear manufacturers are in full swing as they prepare to participate in the upcoming Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags, one of the world’s leading international trade fairs for footwear and leather goods. The annual event, held in Riva del Garda in northern Italy, serves as a major B2B platform where global manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and buyers come together to explore new collections, finalise orders, and track emerging market trends.
Shoe traders from Agra have been attending the Garda fair for nearly four decades, maintaining a consistent presence and strengthening the city’s reputation as a global footwear hub.
Chetan, a shoe exporter from Agra, highlighted the long-standing relationship with the fair. He says, “The 104th edition of the Garda (fair) is going to be held in Italy. Exporters from Agra have been attending the Garda fair for nearly 35-40 years. This time too, several members of our association are participating with full positivity and creative preparations. We are fully focussed on design and efficiency. Agra has established itself as a major hub (for shoe manufacturing), and we are going there with full confidence to uphold that reputation.”
Rajesh Sehgal, another trader says, “The Garda fair is the biggest fair for the European market. Around 30-35 manufacturers are participating through the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), and another 50-55 traders are attending on their own – although CLE bears the expenses, these participants are essentially private exhibitors. So, in all, 80-85 traders are attending the fair, the same as last year.”
Industry leaders from Agra expect a significant rise in business this year, hoping to almost double last year’s performance.
Vijay Sama, President of the Agra Shoe Federation, expressed optimism, “We have used new varieties of leather – cow leather, goat leather, sheep leather, and many new new experiments have been conducted using them. I believe we will achieve double the turnover compared to last time. Customers have high expectations, and we have prepared samples with the same enthusiasm. The samples showcase new innovations, including the use of AI, and I believe because of the use of technology, high quality products have been developed, and Agra's shoes will make their presence felt in the global market.”
Exporters from Agra reported sales worth over ₹250 crore at last year’s fair. This year, they estimate business to reach between ₹450 crore and ₹500 crore, reflecting renewed global demand for Indian leather products.
The Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags fair will take place from January 10 to 13 next year.
