When Vijay Sethupathi said: Didn’t fear proposing to my wife in 5 months, what fear in choosing film roles?

Mumbai: There are certain comebacks of actors that stay in our minds forever. Vijay Sethupathi, known for his unique one-liners, once gave a savage reply to film critic Anupama Chopra while promoting his film, ‘Merry Christmas’ (2024).

In an exclusive interview with Chopra, Sethupathi, along with Katrina Kaif and Sriram Raghavan, were discussing the process of picking the right character and how Sethupathi doesn't fear any of it.

When an inquisitive Chopra enquired if Sethupathi was completely fearless in his choices while choosing a character, owing to his huge success and whether that makes him picky or not, a candid Sethupathi said: When I was in Dubai, I was in love with my wife. Hum log kabhi mila nehi tha, So that time on Yahoo chat, I was talking to her for a week. Ek hafte me maine bola toh, me I love you nehi bola, humlog shadi karenge, aisa poocha tha maine seedha. So, we fell in love for five months, then I came and married her. Jab Zindagi ka itna bada decision ke liye fear nahi hai, to iske liye kyu?”

The quote closely summarizes Sethupathi falling in love with his wife in Dubai over Yahoo Chat and proposing to her directly for marriage and not courtship. The actor said that he was fearless while taking the most important decision of his life within weeks, thus he is never in fear while choosing a role.

Not only did this amuse Chopra, Kaif, and Raghavan, but also the audience, who could not help but laugh in amusement and respect.

Work front: Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen are all set to entertain us with a love story on July 25, with the official release date for Pandiraj’s upcoming directorial, ‘Thalaivan Thalaivii’, being announced along on Sunday. The film, also starring RK Suresh, Mynaa Nandhini, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan, and Sendrayan, among others, marks Sethupathi’s 52nd movie. It is produced under the Sathya Jyothi Films banner.
