Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ is gearing up for a high-profile theatrical opening in Kerala, with advance ticket sales nearing ₹4 crore on the first day of bookings. The strong demand has prompted theatres across the state to plan additional screenings, including a 24-hour marathon at a prominent cinema in Thrissur.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action entertainer is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on October 15. Sree Gokulam Movies, owned by Sree Gokulam Gopalan, is associated with the film’s Kerala distribution, alongside distribution partner Dream Big Films.

‘Jailer 2’ advance bookings set records

The film has registered a strong start across ticketing platforms, with more than 1 lakh tickets reportedly sold in the first hour of bookings through BookMyShow, District by Zomato, TicketNew and theatre counters.

BookMyShow recorded sales exceeding 40,000 tickets per hour during the initial booking period, while District by Zomato registered more than 12,000 tickets sold per hour. The latter also marked a record for the platform, according to the figures shared by the film’s distributors.

‘Jailer 2’ has secured the Most Hyped badge on District by Zomato and continues to attract attention on BookMyShow. Several theatres in Kerala have reported sold-out opening-day shows, with additional screenings being considered to accommodate demand.

Thrissur theatre plans 24-hour screenings

Ragam Theatre in Thrissur has announced a 24-hour marathon of screenings on the film’s opening day, offering fans multiple opportunities to watch the Rajinikanth-starrer.

Theatre operators in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur and Kottayam are also reporting considerable interest in advance bookings. With tickets selling rapidly at several centres, more shows are expected to be added ahead of the release.

The booking response reflects the anticipation surrounding the sequel, particularly among Rajinikanth’s fan base in Kerala, where the film is also drawing attention for the return of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.

Mohanlal’s return adds to the excitement

Mohanlal is reprising his role in ‘Jailer 2’ after his appearance in the first film generated considerable interest among audiences. His presence in the sequel has become one of the major talking points in Kerala, with the trailer showcasing him in a mass-action avatar.

The prospect of seeing Mohanlal share screen space with Rajinikanth again has further fuelled interest in the film. The sequel also features Shiva Rajkumar, who returns to the franchise, alongside Suraj Venjaramoodu, S J Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Yogi Babu and Hakeem Shajahan.

Rajinikanth reprises Muthuvel Pandian

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, ‘Jailer 2’ sees Rajinikanth return as Muthuvel Pandian following the success of the first instalment. Nelson Dilipkumar has returned to direct the sequel, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music and background score.

Vijay Kartik Kannan is the cinematographer. The film brings together familiar faces from the original alongside new additions to the cast, with expectations centred on its action sequences, star power and music.

‘Jailer 2’ is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, with the first show in Kerala slated to begin at 6 am. The combination of strong advance sales, sold-out screenings and plans for extended shows is setting the stage for a busy opening day across the state.
