Ramayana teaser triggers mixed reactions: ‘Slightly better than Adipurush’, say fans

The teaser of ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, has sparked intense debate online, with audiences expressing sharply divided opinions just hours after its release on Hanuman Jayanti.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the ambitious mythological epic unveiled its first visuals on April 2, offering a glimpse into Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama.
While the film has been mounted on a grand scale and carries massive expectations, early reactions suggest that the teaser has left many viewers conflicted.
A section of social media users did not hold back in their criticism, particularly targeting the film’s visual effects and overall execution. “Take more time, this story holds feelings man! What is this bullshittt! Slightly better than Adipurush,” one netizen wrote, echoing a sentiment that quickly gained traction online.
Comparisons with ‘Adipurush’ (2023), which faced severe backlash for its VFX, surfaced repeatedly, with some viewers saying the new teaser only marginally improves on past mistakes.
Another viewer shared a more detailed critique on Instagram, writing, “Mixed feelings! Underwhelming! Expected better! I remember your conversation with Sadhguru, one of the best, expected that more than the VFX, which looks cartoonish and this again makes the world believe that it was just a imaginary story.
Could be more philosophically focused and grounded.” The comment highlights a broader concern among audiences who expected a more rooted and spiritual interpretation of the epic rather than a heavily VFX-driven spectacle.
Budget-related criticism also emerged, with some users questioning whether the scale justifies the output.
“Very disappointing 4000cr for this and the Hollywood work for what! The monster in the first couple of scenes looks like it’s from Adipurush! No hate guys that’s just the true…” another user posted, pointing to perceived shortcomings in creature design and production quality.
However, the response has not been entirely negative. Many fans came out in support of the teaser, praising Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation and screen presence.
“Now this what we want from Bollywood... I do not able to except that Ranbir Kapoor will do justice to our Lord Ram but he did... so so satisfied,” one comment read, reflecting appreciation for the actor’s performance and look.
The teaser also briefly introduced other key characters, including Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita, adding to the intrigue around the film’s ensemble cast.
With ‘Ramayana’ envisioned as a large-scale cinematic universe, the mixed reception to its first teaser underscores both the immense expectations and the challenges of adapting a deeply revered epic.
For now, the film has succeeded in igniting conversation, though whether it ultimately wins over sceptics remains to be seen.
