Missed War 2 in theatres? Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s spy saga now streaming on OTT

Yash Raj Films’ War 2, which promised to be one of Bollywood’s biggest action spectacles of the year, has arrived on Netflix, giving the film a second life after its lukewarm box office run. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani, and Jr NTR, the film is now streaming in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil from 9 October.

The film, released in theatres on 14 August, struggled to meet high expectations despite its star power and placement within YRF’s growing Spy Universe. It earned ₹364.25 crore worldwide, notably less than the first War (2019), which collected ₹471 crore.

For Netflix, however, the OTT release marks an opportunity to draw new viewers who may have skipped its theatrical run. The streaming platform promoted the release with the line, “Double the rage. Double the rampage. Ready for the War?”—a pitch aimed at reigniting interest in the franchise.

Online reactions have been divided. Some fans welcomed the chance to revisit the movie from home, while others commented that the digital debut came sooner than expected, a reflection of its underwhelming performance at the cinemas.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 features Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as the suave agent Kabir, while Jr NTR steps in as the formidable new spy, Vikram. Kiara Advani plays Kavya, a key new entry into the spy universe. The story expands the interconnected YRF Spy Universe, which also includes Pathaan and Tiger 3.

In a reflective Instagram post after the film’s release, Hrithik Roshan hinted at mixed feelings about the outcome, writing that “everything seemed perfect” but “it was too easy,” suggesting creative restlessness despite commercial ambition.

The film ends with a post-credit scene teasing Alpha, the next instalment in the YRF Spy Universe, featuring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, and Bobby Deol.

While War 2 may not have reached its theatrical potential, its OTT debut offers a chance for viewers to reassess the high-budget action franchise—this time without the pressure of box office numbers.
