‘There’s a woman inside all of us..I love jewellery and enjoy wearing it’: Mohanlal

Kochi: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal recently created a buzz with his jewellery commercial for Vinsmera Jewels, directed by his ‘Thudarum’ co-star and acclaimed ad filmmaker Prakash Varma. The ad, which broke the internet, saw the actor explore his feminine side while challenging long-held gender stereotypes.

In a candid interview with a news portal, Mohanlal revealed that he tapped into “the woman within” for the performance. “There is a woman inside all of us. When we put on jewellery, a watch, or a ring, we admire ourselves in the mirror. Everyone wants to look good in front of others,” he said. Check out the viral ad below: 

The actor added that he did the ad at Prakash’s request and had “no worries” about fan reactions. Since he was juggling film shoots, he retained his trademark beard in the ad. “What was done in the advertisement was to bring out the woman inside of us; it was done brilliantly. I personally love jewellery and enjoy wearing it,” he said.

For those who missed it, the commercial shows Mohanlal sneaking away from a film set to try on jewels and admire himself in the mirror, before Varma catches him in the act. The ad was widely appreciated for its progressive message and Mohanlal’s bold choice.
