Kanguva receives rave reviews as it hits theatres worldwide; Fans hail Suriya's performance

Suriya's highly anticipated period action thriller, ‘Kanguva’, hit theaters on November 14, promising audiences an immersive journey into an ancient, fantasy-laden world. Directed by Siva, the film had early screenings across Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, with fans eager to catch the first glimpse. 

The film’s action-packed sequences and rich visuals have been praised, though viewers have pointed out a few narrative flaws that might impact its overall appeal.

One user on X praised Suriya and his appearance in the movie, “Suriya’s Efforts are Priceless… Well Toned Body, Kanguva Body Language & Expressions, Fight Sequences, Dialogue Delivery, Stylish Francis Makeover, Yolo Dance. Pure One Man Show!”

On the other hand, a user stated that the film was an average film, He wrote, ”KANGUVA delivers stunning visuals and strong production values. Suriya excels in the period portions, though other characters lack depth . The historical scenes stand out, but the narration could have been sharper. Overall, an average film.”

Industry insiders have lauded Suriya’s performance, and early feedback from the overseas censor board has even described ‘Kanguva’ as a “cult classic.” Umair Sandhu, a member of the Overseas Censor Board wrote, “One the whole, despite having a first half that is rather slow, and a ballistic second half & climax, a film like Kanguva makes you proud that Tamil Indian filmmaker dared to dream big and accomplished it. It is definitely not to be missed. Call it a box-office hit today, but tomorrow it will be remembered as a cult classic, Suriya stole the show all the way. Bobby Deol is in terrific form. Skip Diwali releases and go for this crazy ride. 3.5/5”

Apart from positive reviews, a few users felt that the movie was not up to par. A user wrote, “#KanguvaFDFS is a fantasy action film with potential but its execution fails to fully deliver. Suriya's solid performance is wasted by a flat narrative.While the 1st half maintains some momentum the second 1/2loses focus the film falls short due Underwhelming story and uneven score.”

Another user on X wrote, “A weak script backed up with mind blowing visuals and excellent VFX.. good performance from Suriya & small boy.. manippu video song is easily best part in the movie. 3D is too good. Racy screenplay but failed to impress us.. couldn’t able to connect in single scene.. interval twist was decent.. climax fight & cameo was underwhelming scenes with Loud BGM were drawbacks for this movie.. no emotional connect. Overall a disappointing movie !!”

Set in the medieval era, ‘Kanguva’ features Suriya as a fierce tribal warrior, with Bobby Deol taking on the role of the main adversary. Disha Patani co-stars as the female lead, while the cast also includes Natty, Karunas, Kovai Sarala, Yogi Babu, and Redin Kingsley. Devi Sri Prasad’s musical score underpins the film’s epic scenes, blending traditional sounds with cinematic grandeur.

With the movie released in eight languages — including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, English, French, and Spanish — ‘Kanguva’ has positioned itself as a pan-Indian, multilingual venture.
