Amidst Sonam’s comeback announcement, looking at her best performances

Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja had taken a sabbatical from work after she delivered her baby boy, Vayu, in August 2021. But now, the actor is all set to return to the screens. On Monday, Sonam announced that she will start shooting for her new project from early 2025.
Confirming her return to the films after pregnancy, Sonam said in a statement, “I will return to the sets early next year. Details of this project are currently getting locked so I won’t be able to talk at length till the announcement is made. It’s a big project. That’s all I can say right now.”
While fans are eager to know more about her untitled next, we bring you some of her best performances so far.
‘Neerja’:
Sonam delivered her career-best performance when she starred in and as ‘Neerja.’ Directed by Ram Madhvani, ‘Neerja’ is a biographical thriller based on flight purser Neerja Bhanot’s life, who died while saving the lives of the passengers and crew and prevented the hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan in 1986. It became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films led by a female actor. The movie also marked the acting debut of Jim Sarbh.
‘Raanjhanaa’:
Director Aanand L Rai’s ‘Raanjhanaa,’ starring Dhanush and Sonam in the leading roles, is a critically acclaimed romantic drama. While Dhanush played Kundan Shankar’s role, Sonam was seen as Zoya Haider, the woman that Kundan is deeply in love with. The film earned positive reviews for its direction, writing, and performances, especially that of Dhanush, who made his Hindi debut with ‘Raanjhanaa.’ Released in 2023, it is set for a standalone sequel titled ‘Tere Ishq Mein.’
‘Khoobsurat’:
‘Khoobsurat’ marked the Bollywood debut of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. A romantic-comedy drama, Fawad played the role of Prince Vikram Singh Rathore while Sonam was seen as physiotherapist Dr. Mili Chakravarty. Sonam’s character of a happy-go-lucky doctor, who is half-Punjabi and half-Bengali, received much love from the audience. Made on a small budget of Rs. 23 crore, its total collections reached around Rs. 80 crore, making it a commercial success.
‘Delhi-6’:
With Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam in the leading roles, ‘Delhi-’ features a talented ensemble cast comprising Waheeda Rehman, Aditi Rao Hydari, Rishi Kapoor, Atul Kasbekar, Supriya Pathak, among many others. It is considered to be one of the best works of director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Sonam was seen as Bittu Sharma, who is the love interest of Roshan Mehra (played by Abhishek).
