Sivaji Ganesan lookalike Asokan dies after collapsing on stage during performance | WATCH

Singapore: Asokan Muniyandy, fondly known as "Singapore Sivaji" for his remarkable impersonation of Tamil cinema icon Sivaji Ganesan, passed away at the age of 60.
Asokan began his career as a mimicry artist in 2000 when he performed at a local grassroots event. Over the years, he became well-known for his performances at various charity and community events in Singapore, Malaysia, and India.
Footage of what is believed to be Asokan’s final performance has surfaced on social media, showing him lip-syncing to the song 'Ullam Rendum' from the 1974 film 'Sivagamiyin Selvan'. Asokan was seen engaging with the audience, clapping and waving after the performance. Sadly, moments later, he collapsed on stage.
Asokan once shared that he only started impersonating Sivaji Ganesan after being told they looked alike. With the help of makeup, including foundation and kohl, he would transform into the legendary actor. Over the years, he performed almost every weekend, both in Singapore and Malaysia, earning S$400 for a 30-minute show locally and RM1,500 (about S$456) across the border.
Asokan memorized around 80 songs from Sivaji's films and even had nearly 100 costumes, modeled after the ones Sivaji wore in his movies, which were custom-made by seamstresses in Singapore and Malaysia. These costumes were stored in his five-room flat.
According to Shastra Funeral Services, Asokan passed away on October 12, leaving behind his wife, two children, and two grandchildren. His wake is being held from October 13 to October 15, with the cremation scheduled for October 15.
Fans and admirers have been leaving heartfelt messages on social media, remembering Asokan for his dedication to his craft.
As one fan put it, "He died doing what he loved."
