Param Sundari X Review: A fresh take on romance, with some familiar flaws

Param Sundari, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, released today, has already sparked a lively conversation among audiences on social media platform X. While the film faced some controversies prior to its release, particularly regarding the portrayal of the Malayalam accent and cultural representation, early reactions show a mix of appreciation and critique.
Many viewers have praised the undeniable chemistry between the lead actors. Janhvi Kapoor, in particular, is being hailed for delivering one of her best performances to date, described as natural, confident, and engaging.
One user shared, “A feel-good entertainer that works for the most part... Crackling chemistry [#SidharthMalhotra – #JanhviKapoor] + excellent music [#Pardesiya] are its strongest assets.” Another praised Janhvi Kapoor’s performance, saying, “Janhvi Kapoor delivers her career-best act… Natural, spontaneous and brimming with confidence… An absolute delight to watch.”
Sidharth Malhotra’s screen presence also won praise. “His charismatic screen presence and likeable act elevate the narrative,” commented a viewer. The film’s scenic shots of Kerala and the boat race finale were described as “a visual spectacle,” adding to the overall appeal.
One user also clarified, “Contrary to speculation, Param Sundari doesn’t borrow from 2 States or Chennai Express. It charts its own course with a distinct flavour.”
However, not all feedback was positive. Some users found the story predictable and lacking depth, with one saying, “The narrative feels predictable at times, making it more of a one-time watch than a lasting experience.” Another user felt the second half faltered: “The movie dips in the second half. There’s no real challenge in their love story, the heartbreak feels forced, and the reunion doesn’t create much impact.”
Criticism of the screenplay was also noted. “Screenplay Weak, Routine Interval Block.. I Seems like That Screenplay Can Be much Much Better...I Expected More For This Movie,” one user wrote, reflecting a desire for a sharper, more engaging plot.
Still, the humour and cultural quirks were appreciated. “The cultural confusions are quirky, and the humor fits perfectly,” shared another viewer, praising the supporting cast’s performances and the director’s focused approach.
