'Show features obscene scenes inappropriate to watch in the presence of children': DMK ally seeks ban on Bigg Boss Tamil

Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) leader and MLA Velumurugan, whose party is allied with the DMK, has urged the Tamil Nadu government to ban Bigg Boss Tamil. At a press conference, he alleged that the show promotes “vile acts” that undermine Tamil culture and values, accusing its makers of prioritising profit over ethics.
“The show features obscene body movements, kissing, and bedroom scenes that are inappropriate to watch in the presence of a grown-up girl or children. The only thing they have refrained from depicting so far is actual sexual intercourse,” he said, questioning whether the particular television channel should continue airing what he called an “indecent programme.”
Velumurugan added that he has submitted an attention-seeking motion to Assembly Speaker Appavu and warned of large-scale protests if the show is not banned. Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, began airing on October 5 with 20 contestants.
When controversy hit Bigg Boss Kannada
Meanwhile somedays ago, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had sealed Vels Studio in Bidadi, where Bigg Boss Kannada is filmed, citing violations of air and water pollution norms and lack of consent to operate. KSPCB officials said the studio ran facilities such as an amusement park, hotel rooms, and a sewage treatment plant that were non-compliant with environmental regulations. Following this, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar intervened and directed the Bengaluru South Deputy Commissioner to lift the seal, while emphasizing that environmental compliance must still be ensured. Shivakumar stated that the studio would be given time to rectify the violations under KSPCB norms, reaffirming his support for the Kannada entertainment industry.
Responding on X, host Kichcha Sudeep thanked Shivakumar and officials for acknowledging that Bigg Boss Kannada was not responsible for the disturbances and for promptly resolving the issue, allowing the show’s production to continue.(With inputs from Agencies)
