Asin made her silver screen debut with the Sathyan Anthikad’s Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka. However, it was her performance as Kalpana in the Tamil blockbuster Ghajini alongside Suriya that catapulted her to widespread fame. The role earned her a loyal fanbase, and when the movie was remade in Bollywood, Asin reprised her role opposite Aamir Khan.

In Bollywood, she continued her success with hits like Housefull 2, Khiladi 786, and All Is Well.

Stepping away from cinema

In January 2016, Asin married Rahul Sharma, the co-founder of Micromax. Following her marriage, she stepped away from the film industry to focus on her personal life. The couple now resides in Delhi with their seven-year-old daughter, Arin.

The love story

Rahul Sharma recently opened up about their love story on a podcast. It was actor Akshay Kumar, a close friend of Rahul, who introduced the two. Their first meeting took place during a private jet journey in 2012, en route to Dhaka for promotions of the film Housefull 2 and to watch India’s Asia Cup cricket matches.

During the flight, Akshay playfully remarked that Asin and Rahul were a "great match." While Asin initially brushed it off as a joke, she was impressed by Rahul’s humility and simplicity.

At the time, Asin was unaware that Rahul was a co-owner of Micromax and the private jet they were flying in. It was only later she discovered these details. The two exchanged phone numbers during the trip and grew closer over time.

A proposal with a treasure hunt

Rahul proposed to Asin in a grand yet thoughtful manner—a treasure hunt organised at a luxury hotel in Delhi. The hunt culminated in Rahul kneeling with a diamond ring worth Rs 6 crore engraved with the initials "AR". To make the moment even more special, Rahul proposed in Malayalam, a language he had learned specifically for the occasion.

Marriage and family

The couple married on 19 January 2016 in a ceremony that honoured both Hindu and Christian traditions. A year later, they welcomed their daughter.

Reflecting on her journey, Asin once said her love story mirrored the essence of Ghajini—unexpected and transformative. In interviews, she has made it clear that she is content with her peaceful family life and has no plans to return to acting.

A life beyond the spotlight

Now living a quiet and happy life in Delhi, Asin continues to cherish her roles as a wife and mother, having gracefully transitioned from the limelight to domestic bliss.
