‘Returned the advances in full…’: Rana on how his health failed him at a crucial point in his career

Actor Rana Daggubati has spoken about how serious health challenges affected both his personal and professional life, recalling the period when he underwent a kidney transplant in the United States after suffering kidney failure and cardiac complications.
The actor revealed that his health deteriorated at a time when he was riding high on the success of a major film in his career. Owing to the severity of his condition, he was compelled to take a break from cinema to focus entirely on treatment. While in the US, his sole priority was survival and recovery.
After nearly a year of intensive treatment, Rana returned to India, only to realise that the physical toll of the procedures had considerably altered his appearance. He admitted that coming to terms with these changes was emotionally challenging.
Speaking on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast show Chapter 2, the actor disclosed that one of the consequences of his health crisis was his decision to return advance payments he had received for several films signed prior to his illness. He explained that, following treatment, he no longer had the physicality required for certain roles, including a project based on the life of a wrestler. As a result, he refunded the advances in full.
Rana’s most recent release was Kantha, in which Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse played lead roles. He also served as the film’s producer. The actor made cameo appearances in Mirai and Parasakthi as well.
