Thiruvananthapuram: A new organization, 'Progressive Film Makers', is set to take shape in Malayalam cinema, led by prominent directors such as Aashiq Abu, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Rajeev Ravi, and Anjali Menon, along with actress Rima Kallingal. Director Anjali Menon told Mathrubhumi news that initial discussions for the formation of the group have already begun.

The organization's primary goal is to empower workers within the film industry, with a commitment to foster a new cinematic culture. A letter detailing the mission and vision of the group has been circulated among film workers, emphasizing the importance of protecting workers' rights.

This development follows Aashiq Abu’s resignation from the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), where he cited multiple grievances. In response, FEFKA stated that they were informed of Abu’s resignation through the media and dismissed the allegations raised by him as baseless.
