Turned down Rs 7 crore OTT offer for Kaval, reveals producer Joby George

Producer Joby George has offered support to the release of movies on OTT platforms. He said that he was approached by OTT platforms for his movie ‘Veyil’.

‘Veyil’ is a movie directed by a first time director. Moreover, actor Shane Nigam has performed really well in the movie. Hence, it was decided to release the movie in theatres, he said.

Joby George also revealed that he was offered Rs 7 crores by a streaming platform for his movie ‘Kaval’, starring Suresh Gopi. However, he did not take up the offer out of consideration for the theatre owners. I was able to remain unaffected during the pandemic. But that is not case with everybody, he stated.

'It is not possible to release every movie online. They approach you after taking into account the production house, caste and director involved in the movie. Earlier, movies that were successful in theatres were selected by OTT platforms.'

A section of theatre owners had criticised the release of Mohanlal starrer, ‘Drishyam 2’ on Amazon Prime Video. This is the first big budget movie to be released directly on OTT from Malayalam industry. The movie was produced by Antony Perumbavoor.
