Oscars 2025: Adrien Brody, Mikey Madison win Best Actor and Best Actress; Anora takes Best Picture

Los Angeles: The 97th Academy Awards have kicked off at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. “Emilia Pérez” leads the pack with 13 Oscar nominations, but “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” are close behind.
In a major surprise, Adrien Brody won the best actor award for his role in The Brutalist. Kieran Culkin took home the award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Benji Kaplan in Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain. Meanwhile, actress Zoe Saldana won the award for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez.
Meanwhile, Anora has won the Academy Award for best original screenplay and the best picture, with the film’s writer-director Sean Baker taking the honours.
“Flow” beat “The Wild Robot” for best animated feature film while “In the Shadow of the Cypress” won for best animated short. Paul Tazewell became the first Black man to win an Oscar for costume design for his work on “Wicked.”
The 2025 Oscars opened with its biggest musical voices. “Wicked” star Ariana Grande launched into “The Wizard of Oz” classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” following a visual package celebrating the city of Los Angeles.
