‘Not a troublesome boy...’ Shine Tom Chacko reveals when Mammootty reached out to him with advice

Actor Shine Tom Chacko revealed that veteran actor Mammootty reached out to him with comforting words following the tragic death of his father in a road accident.

In an interview with Cue Studio, Shine recalled how Mammootty called him soon after the accident that claimed his father’s life on June 6.

“You’re not a troublesome boy… You just have to change certain things. Everything will be fine. Don’t overthink and feel sad. We’ll change and move forward. Everything else will follow,” Mammootty told him.

Despite all the controversies surrounding Shine over the years, he said Mammootty has always stood by him. He remembered how, after he was acquitted in an earlier cocaine case, Mammootty sent him a simple but meaningful message: “God bless you.”

The two actors have shared screen space in several films, including ‘Unda’, ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, ‘Christopher’, ‘Kannur Squad’, ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’, and Bazooka.

Shine also opened up about his ongoing fight with addiction, the judgement he continues to face, and the small but significant changes he’s making to move forward.

On addiction: ‘The pleasure never lasts’

Shine didn’t shy away from talking about his battle with addiction either. He admitted that even as he tries to stay clean, many people still believe he’ll return to his old ways.

He said that in the past, he tried to quit because of pressure and fear. But now, it’s different, he’s doing it for the people around him. He described addiction as very deceptive, saying, “The pleasure it gives never really lasts, especially if that’s not what you’re truly addicted to. For me, my real addiction is movies”

He also shared some of the small steps he’s taking in his daily life to stay on track. He’s started playing badminton instead of taking cigarette breaks, and in place of cigarettes, he now finds comfort in having small snacks like biscuits.

The pain of losing a parent

Talking about the accident, Shine revealed the physical injuries he suffered, 30 stitches and a small crack in his back. His mother, who had a dislocated hip, had it treated, but she is still bedridden.

Emotionally, the trauma has been even harder to bear. Shine said his mother hasn’t accepted her husband’s death yet. “She keeps asking about him,” he said softly.

He spoke about how the accident made the idea of losing a parent hit home.

“Until then, hearing about someone’s father or mother dying was just something I would see on the news,” he said.

“But when it happens to you, it hits different.”

Shine added, “When someone close to us passes away, our belief in ghosts and stuff changes. Earlier if we used to get scared of ghosts and spirits, now I wish to see my father. I wish he’s with us as a spirit…”

The tragic accident that changed everything

The accident happened near Palakottai when a lorry coming from the opposite direction crashed into their car. Locals quickly helped and took the injured to a hospital. Sadly, Shine’s father, CP Chacko, died on the spot.

The tragedy came just weeks after Shine found himself in the middle of a legal controversy involving drugs, which led to a court order for him to undergo rehabilitation.
