Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited actor and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna at a Hyderabad hospital on Sunday to check on his health following his recent knee surgery.

Balakrishna is currently recovering at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) after undergoing an operation earlier this week for an injury he suffered during the shooting of his upcoming film.

During the visit, Naidu, who is also Balakrishna's brother-in-law, spent time with the actor and enquired about his condition and recovery. He also met the medical team treating Balakrishna to understand his progress, treatment plan and the rehabilitation process that will follow.

The actor was injured while filming an untitled project directed by Gopichand Malineni in Rajahmundry on July 21. Following the accident, he was airlifted to Hyderabad the next day for specialised treatment.

Doctors later diagnosed him with a tear in the left quadriceps tendon, which connects the thigh muscle to the kneecap. He had also suffered injuries to the supporting tissues on both sides of his knee.

After conducting a detailed medical evaluation, the team of specialists decided that surgery was the most suitable course of treatment.

Balakrishna underwent the procedure on July 23, with the hospital later confirming that the operation was completed successfully and without complications.

According to the hospital's medical bulletin, the surgery lasted around three hours. During the procedure, doctors removed the accumulated blood around the injured area, reattached the torn quadriceps tendon to the kneecap and repaired the damaged supporting tissues on both sides of the knee.

The hospital has said that Balakrishna's condition is stable and that he continues to remain under close post-operative observation. His recovery is being closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team, and he will begin rehabilitation gradually depending on his progress.

The actor's injury had prompted an outpouring of concern from fans and political colleagues alike. Soon after the accident, both Chandrababu Naidu and Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh spoke to Balakrishna over the phone and wished him a speedy recovery.

Apart from being one of Telugu cinema's biggest stars, Balakrishna is an active politician. He represents Hindupur in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and is serving his third consecutive term as a TDP MLA. He also shares close family ties with the party leadership, being Chandrababu Naidu's brother-in-law and the father-in-law of Nara Lokesh.

The makers of Balakrishna's upcoming film are yet to announce any changes to the shooting schedules.
