Malayalam cinema enthusiasts have been waiting for years for a film adaptation of Randamoozham, the acclaimed novel by legendary writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Now, fresh reports suggest that the long-cherished project may finally be moving forward, with indications that the novel will indeed be adapted for the big screen.

According to the latest reports, Kannada actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty is likely to direct the film. Sources close to M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s family have said that preliminary discussions between the author and Shetty had taken place at Nair’s initiative around one-and-a-half years ago. An official announcement is expected sometime this year.

Several production houses had previously attempted to bring Randamoozham to cinema. At one stage, a contract was signed with filmmaker Sreekumar Menon. However, due to prolonged delays in the production process, MT eventually withdrew from the agreement and reclaimed the screenplay.

The film adaptation of Randamoozham would mark the fulfilment of what is widely regarded as M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s greatest creative ambition. With the project gaining momentum, speculation is now growing over who will portray Bhima, the central character of the story. Details regarding the producer and other key members of the crew are also expected to be revealed soon.

Sources indicate that Rishab Shetty may visit Kozhikode in the near future, following which an official announcement of the film will be made jointly by the director and M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s family.

Meanwhile, Manorathangal, an anthology film based on nine short stories by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and directed by nine different filmmakers, was recently released on an OTT platform. The film was produced by a production company involving members of the author’s family.
