Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Mohanlal on Thursday visited the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at Thiruvananthapuram and took part in the rare Murajapam-Lakshdeepam proclamation ceremony.

As part of the ritual, the proclamation was formally accepted, and the ceremonial lamp was lit. Members of the Travancore royal family later handed over the proclamation certificate to the actor.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohanlal said he was unsure whether he was worthy of undertaking the task. “I am humbly accepting this as the blessing bestowed on me by Sree Padmanabhaswamy,” he said.

The actor also recalled his personal connection to the temple, noting that his father was a government official in the land of Sree Padmanabhan. “It is not enough to say that I am happy; it is a blessing. I consider it the grace of Lord Sree Padmanabhan to be able to participate in this ceremony. As someone born and brought up in Thiruvananthapuram, Sree Padmanabhaswamy and the great temple are more of an emotion than just a belief,” he added.
