Game of Thrones actor Michael Patrick dies aged 35 after battle with Motor Neurone Disease

Irish actor and writer Michael Patrick, best known for his role in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 35 after battling Motor Neurone Disease.
Patrick, also known off-stage as Michael Campbell, gained recognition for his brief but memorable appearance in Game of Thrones. He also built a diverse career across theatre, radio, television, and film, with notable work in Blue Lights and This Town.
Beyond acting, Patrick was an accomplished writer. His adaptation of The Tragedy of Richard III earned him the Judges’ Award at the Stage Awards in January 2025. He also co-wrote the play My Right Foot with Oisín Kearney, inspired by his lived experience of illness.
Battle with Motor Neurone Disease
Patrick was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in February 2023. He publicly shared his diagnosis in mid-2023, revealing that symptoms had begun in his right leg before gradually progressing.
Despite his condition, he continued working and remained active in raising awareness about MND, earning widespread respect for his resilience.
His wife, Naomi Sheehan, confirmed his passing in a heartfelt Instagram post on 8 April 2026. She said he died peacefully in Northern Ireland Hospice, surrounded by family and friends after being admitted 10 days earlier.
What is Motor Neurone Disease?
Motor Neurone Disease is a rare, progressive condition that affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord responsible for controlling movement. As the nerve cells deteriorate, communication between the brain and muscles breaks down, leading to increasing physical disability. It is currently incurable, though symptoms can be managed with treatment.
