Actor Unni Mukundan, who achieved pan-India recognition after the release of his movie Marco, recently reflected on the unexpected failures of some films in his career.

In a promotional interview, the actor discussed the impact of his 2015 Malayalam film 'KL 10 Patthu', which he believed had the potential to succeed but ultimately underperformed at the box office.

“The style [malayalam movie] had the potential to do what Marco has done, say some six years ago. 'KL 10 Patthu' was equally good. It was after KL 10 Patthu that movies like Sudani from Nigeria happened, which set standards for films like it. I felt 'KL 10 Patthu' deserved the same kind of love. It could have changed the trajectory of my career six or seven years back. It kind of dampened my spirit because I was trying to move away from the muscle-man image,” Mukundan said.

Unni added, “I had just completed Vikramadithyan, and the failure of the film also affected Lal Jose sir, who produced KL 10 Patthu. It impacted the distributing company as well. It was a massacre.”

Marco, which premiered on December 20, has received positive reviews and performed well at the box office. Directed and written by Haneef Adeni, the film stars Unni Mukundan in the lead role, alongside a supporting cast including Siddique, Jagadish, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu Thilakan, and Yukti Thareja.
