Mandatory contracts for all workers in Malayalam film industry starting October 1

Kochi: The Kerala Film Producers Association has announced that contracts will be mandatory for all workers in the film industry. In a letter sent to FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) and AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), the Association stated that starting from October 1, all films must have signed contracts for their cast and crew.
Contracts for all film workers
Contracts were initially decided to be set for workers earning above Rs 1 lakh, but the new decision ensures that every worker involved in film production will have a contract in place.
Beginning October 1, actors and technicians will only be allowed to work on films registered under the Kerala Film Producers Association if they have a mandatory service contract. The letter also emphasises that the Producers’ Association will not get involved in any labour disputes that arise in cases where contracts are not established.
WCC’s call for improved industry practices
A few days back, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) had called for suggestions to improve industry practices and shared their own proposal focused on mandatory contracts for all industry personnel.
Through social media, the WCC outlined one of the five key recommendations to be included in a comprehensive Cinema Code of Conduct. The first recommendation revolves around implementing contracts for all employees in the film industry.
