Mammootty visits Gujarat’s ‘Statue of Unity’ after receiving National Award for ‘Bramayugam’

A day after receiving the Best Actor honour at the 72nd National Film Awards, Mammootty visited the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on Wednesday. The actor was in the state for the National Awards ceremony, where he was recognised for his performance in Rahul Sadasivan’s ‘Bramayugam’.

Mammootty shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan, who was honoured for his performance in ‘Chandu Champion’. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at the ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, on Tuesday.

Following the ceremony, Mammootty visited the Statue of Unity on Wednesday. The iconic monument, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is located near Kevadia.

The Statue of Unity’s official social media account had earlier welcomed Mammootty to Gujarat, describing the veteran actor as a legend and highlighting his National Award win for ‘Bramayugam’.

Malayalam cinema’s National Award winners

Mammootty was among several Malayalam cinema personalities recognised at the 72nd National Film Awards. Playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi received the Best Female Playback Singer award for ‘Angu Vaana Konilu’ from ‘ARM’.

‘Bramayugam’ also earned cinematographer Shehnad Jalal an award for Best Cinematography. Haseeb Mohammed, Joshi Benedict and Anand Jyothi were among the other Malayalam winners at this year’s National Awards.

Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the ceremony. He is familiar to Malayalam audiences through films including ‘Swathi Thirunal’.

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held in Gujarat instead of Delhi, marking a departure from the traditional venue for the awards. The event was organised in collaboration with the Gujarat government and featured cultural performances from different parts of the country.
