Mammukka reveals the letter addressed to ‘Mammootty Chettan’ in 'Rekhachithram' is a true story

Veteran actor Mammootty recently reminisced about his early days in the film industry, sharing a touching anecdote about a fan who used to address him as ‘Mammootty Chottan’ in her letters. Speaking at the success celebration of his latest film ‘Rekhachithram,’ Mammootty revealed some fascinating details about the era when fan mail was an integral part of his life.
He recounted one particular letter that caught Sreenivasan's attention, addressed to 'Mammootty Chottan.' This letter later inspired the story of the character played by Lissy in the film ‘Mutharamkunnu P.O.’, written by Sreenivasan himself.
Mammootty said, “Namaskaram. In this film, I have only spoken two words. The film has a story within a story within a story. Back when I started my career in cinema, I used Woodlands Hotel's address as my contact. That was an era of fan letters and fan mail, and people were just starting to get familiar with such things. After returning from outdoor shoots, there would always be sacks of letters waiting for me at the hotel.
At that time, Sreenivasan was a regular visitor to my room. During his free time, he would often open and read those letters. Among them, Sreenivasan came across one addressed as ‘Dear Mammootty Chottan.’ That story of Mammootty Chettan is what Sreenivasan later turned into the character played by Lissy in ‘Mutharamkunnu P.O.’. That’s the story behind Mammootty Chettan.”
Mammootty further hinted that the plot of ‘Rekhachithram,’ a suspense thriller, also revolves around the story of a girl who writes letters to Mammootty. However, he refrained from revealing more, saying, "If I say more, it would be a spoiler."
Expressing his gratitude for the film's success, Mammootty said, "This film's story was the reason I chose to collaborate on this project. But more importantly, I owe my thanks to the audience who made it a grand success. I wish the movie continues to soar to greater heights. My heartfelt wishes to everyone involved."
The actor concluded with warm wishes for the film's future and appreciation for his audience's unwavering support.
