Thiruvananthapuram: Superstar Mammootty won the Best Actor award for his performance in the 2024 Malayalam film Bramayugam at the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, marking his seventh Kerala State Film Award. Speaking to the media, he congratulated fellow winners, including Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Shamla Hamza, Sidharth Bharathan, and Soubin Shahir, and praised Ronex Xavier, who won Best Makeup Artist for Bramayugam, for transforming him into his character Kodumon Potti.

Mammootty also lauded the Manjummel Boys team, whose film won multiple awards, including Best Film and Best Director (Chidambaram). Reflecting on younger actors winning several awards this year, he quipped, “Am I that old or what?” and added that the awards are a celebration of talent that brings everyone together.

“We walk with them (other actors); it’s like a trip, not a race.”

Bramayugam, directed by Rahul Sadasivan and produced by YNOT Studios and Night Shift Studios, is a period folk horror thriller that explores Kerala’s sacred mysteries, myths, and folklore. The film, released in black-and-white, was a box office success, grossing over ₹85 crore, making it one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2024.

On his choice of the film, Mammootty said, “I never act expecting it to win an award. I did this movie because both the character and the story were different.”

Bramayugam earned awards for Best Actor, Best Makeup Artist, and Best Background Score, while Shamla Hamza won Best Actress for Feminichi Fathima.
