'What’s wrong with these girls?' Mallika Sukumaran questions fashion choices of heroines at events

Actress Mallika Sukumaran recently raised concerns about the growing influence of Western culture on the younger generation, particularly regarding fashion choices. Speaking at a special event organised by a media outlet in Kerala, she expressed her disapproval of the trend where both women and men tend to adopt the negative aspects of Western culture while disregarding its positive values.
According to Mallika, women’s empowerment should begin with women themselves. “We live in a time when mothers are afraid to take the place of their mothers, keeping their children in their arms, telling them good things and rejecting what is not. It is a pity. Where is Kerala going?” she questioned.
She further elaborated on the issue of fashion, stating that a significant number of people are copying Western trends, particularly in terms of how they dress. “Today, there is a tendency among women and men to ignore all the good qualities of Western countries and adopt bad trends. I have often felt that the main thing that a section of people take away from this Western culture is the way they dress,” Mallika remarked.
While acknowledging that comfort at home is important, she stressed the importance of dressing appropriately in public. "I say this everywhere, including in my own home. Women, including me, wear nighties when we are at home and work in the kitchen. That is convenient for us. But how should women dress when they go in front of a respectable audience?" she asked.
"There are a handful of heroines who I know very well and whom I loved like my own children. Whether it's in movies or serials, when the girls who used to wear half sarees and nice silk skirts and blouses come to public events, even I look at them for a moment when I see their outfits. I think, 'What's wrong with all these girls?'" she said.
