Maharashtra honours Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Salim Khan with top Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced the recipients of its prestigious state cinema honours, selecting veteran musician Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar for the Chhatrapati V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award and acclaimed screenwriter Salim Khan for the Late Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award.

The announcement was made by Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, who also revealed that actor-director Prasad Oak has been chosen for the Chhatrapati V. Shantaram Special Contribution Award, while actor Rani Mukerji will receive the Late Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award.

The honours are among Maharashtra's most prominent recognitions in the field of cinema and are presented to personalities who have made enduring contributions to Marathi and Hindi films across multiple disciplines, including acting, music, direction, production and other aspects of filmmaking.

Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, widely respected for his work as a composer and classical musician, has played a significant role in Indian music over several decades. Salim Khan, one of Hindi cinema's most influential screenwriters, is recognised for shaping some of Bollywood's most memorable films through his writing career.

Prasad Oak has earned acclaim for his work as both an actor and filmmaker in Marathi cinema, while Rani Mukerji remains one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated performers, with a career spanning numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.

The Maharashtra government also issued a formal government resolution confirming the selections. The award ceremony schedule is expected to be announced separately.
