Chennai: Director Lokesh Kanakaraj, fresh off the success of his blockbuster 'Coolie,' is reportedly gearing up to helm a film starring cinema legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. According to industry rumours making waves on social media, Lokesh recently met Kamal Haasan and presented the script, which received the actor's approval. Sources suggest that the film may be produced under Kamal Haasan’s banner, Raaj Kamal Films International.

The prospect of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan sharing screen space for the first time in decades has ignited enthusiasm among fans, though no official confirmation has been made.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for Lokesh’s much-anticipated sequel, 'Kaithi 2,' starring Karthi. Producer S R Prabhu had earlier confirmed that shooting for 'Kaithi 2' would commence by the year's end. Speaking at an event in May, Prabhu stated that work on the film had already begun, with actor Karthi set to start shooting after completing his project with director Tamizh.

The original 'Kaithi,' inspired in part by Bruce Willis’s 'Die Hard' and a news report, was lauded for its intense, female-lead-free narrative. The story followed a lorry driver recently released from prison and unfolded during a single night, delivering a gripping action thriller that won widespread acclaim.

Fans now eagerly await more details, hopeful to witness the magic of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan reunited, while simultaneously anticipating the continuation of the successful 'Kaithi' franchise.
