The KCBC Jagratha Commission has expressed strong opposition to the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film being awarded to ‘Kaathal – The Core’, a movie that centres around the theme of homosexuality.

The Commission took to Facebook to voice its discontent, arguing that the state government has chosen to honour a film that promotes homosexuality while disregarding other films with stronger moral values.

In its Facebook note, the KCBC Jagratha Commission questioned the appropriateness of awarding the state's highest recognition to a film with a theme that it believes challenges traditional moral values. The post referenced the statement made by Culture Minister Saji Cherian during the award announcement, which described the film as "a powerful expression of acceptance and inclusion of diversity." The Commission, however, argues that ‘Kaathal – The Core’ is a propaganda film that pushes an agenda in favour of homosexuality and left-wing political ideology.

KCBC raised concerns over the film's portrayal of homosexuality as a natural phenomenon, asserting that the movie gives undue importance to sexual themes. The Facebook post criticized the storyline, which it claims associates "progressive" ideas of gay sexuality with left-wing politics, portraying the acceptance of homosexuality by leftist leaders as the film’s central message. The Commission noted that this perspective is at odds with the broader societal view, which it claims sees homosexuality as unnatural.

The post further accused the filmmakers of using the movie as a tool for promoting LGBTQIA+ rights, citing director Jeo Baby's earlier interviews in which he expressed his intent to support the community through the film. The Commission highlighted the director's strategy of casting prominent actors like Mammootty to attract larger audiences and thereby influence public opinion. KCBC also suggested that the government's decision to reward the film with the Best Film award is a calculated move to advance the left-wing agenda in Kerala.
