Kattalan New Year poster unveiled with massive gun visual; teaser out on January 16
Following the massive success of the highly violent Malayalam hit "Marco", Cubes Entertainments has released the New Year special poster of its upcoming film "Kattalan", produced by Shareef Muhammed and headlined by Antony Varghese Pepe. The poster features a striking visual of a towering heap of guns, with a bold 'Happy New Year' message at the centre. Alongside the poster, the makers have also announced a major update: the teaser of the film will be released on 16 January.
The recently revealed first-look poster of "Kattalan" had already created ripples, hinting at a shocking and technically grand cinematic experience. Directed by debutant Paul George, the film is anticipated to be one of Malayalam cinema's most visually spectacular ventures, mounted on a massive scale. While reports indicate a possible May theatrical release, official confirmation is awaited. Tamil actor Dushara Vijayan, known for her notable performances in Kollywood, plays the female lead.
Filming commenced recently in Thailand, with action sequences choreographed by internationally acclaimed stunt director Kecha Khamphakdee, famed for the global martial arts classic "Ong-Bak". Adding to the excitement, Pong, the elephant who became a sensation through "Ong-Bak", is also part of the film. The cast brings together a strong ensemble of Malayalam and pan-Indian actors. Industry giants Phars Films have acquired the overseas distribution rights.
The film features several prominent pan-Indian talents including Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Jagadish, Siddique, Anson Paul, Raj Tirandasu, Shon Joy, rapper Baby Jean, Hanan Shaah, "Kill" actor Parth Tiwari, "Lokah" fame Shibin S. Raghav, Hipster Pranav Raj and Call Me Venom. Posters welcoming the ensemble cast had recently garnered significant attention. "Kattalan" began its journey with what was described as one of the grandest pooja ceremonies Malayalam cinema has witnessed, held in Kochi.
Antony Varghese Pepe appears in the film under his real name, 'Antony Varghese'. Kecha Khamphakdee, whose acclaimed body of work includes "Ong-Bak 2", "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion", "Jawan", "Baaghi 2" and "Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1", returns to design high-octane action sequences for this large-scale pan-Indian action thriller. The music is composed by leading Kannada composer B. Ajaneesh Loknath, marking his next major outing after "Kantara Chapter 2".
The film's dialogues are penned by noted writer Unni R., known for "Big B", "Chappa Kurish", "Munnariyippu", and "Charlie". Editing is by acclaimed Malayalam editor Shameer Muhammed.
