Is ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ banned in Kerala? Film exhibitors’ body responds

Kochi: The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) has clarified that there is no ban on the release of Kantara: Chapter 1 in the state.

Speaking to Mathrubhumi.com, FEUOK executive member Bobby said the organisation has not taken any decision to block the film’s release and that discussions are still underway regarding revenue-sharing terms.

The distribution rights of the film in Kerala have been acquired jointly by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2.

According to FEUOK, Magic Frames demanded 55% of net box office collections for the first two weeks. The exhibitors, however, agreed only to a 55% share for the first week. As the distributors have remained firm on their demand for two weeks, talks are continuing.

“If at all screening permission is denied, it will only be after a general body meeting,” Bobby added, dismissing speculation about an outright ban.

Kantara, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, was released in 2022 and became a box-office sensation. The upcoming Kantara: Chapter 1 is produced by Hombale Films, the banner behind major pan-India blockbusters like KGF, Kantara, and Salaar.
