Kalyani Priyadarshan considered quitting films after ‘Lokah’ success

Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan has revealed that she considered stepping away from films after the massive success of ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’. Speaking at the film’s UK success event, Kalyani shared that it was a moment of emotional uncertainty and self-doubt. What kept her going, she said, was a piece of invaluable advice from her father, veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan.
“After Lokah, I seriously thought about whether I should continue in cinema. I didn’t know what I should do next,” Kalyani said, reflecting on the overwhelming pressure that followed the blockbuster’s release.
She went on to explain how her father's words served as a turning point.
“When the film ‘Chithram’ ran for 365 days, I thought I had peaked. After that, 'Kilukkam' was released (which was a bigger success). Don't think this is the highest you can go.”
The emotional revelation came as Lokah inches closer to ₹300 crore in global box office collections, marking it as one of the biggest Malayalam film successes ever.
Adding to the excitement, a teaser for the film’s highly anticipated sequel was released recently. Reports suggest that the second part will delve into the story of Chathan, with Tovino Thomas playing the central role.
