World turns to India: ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ amasses global fandom

'Kalki 2898 AD' continues to garner a great response around the globe. Several fans from different parts of the world have taken to their social media accounts.

Sri Lankan fans have taken a huge liking to the Prabhas-starrer. According to figures given by Sri Lanka Movies on X, the three-day gross in Sri Lanka is LKR 1,302,1958 (Rs 3,551,222).

The movie, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Prabhas, has received a huge reception from international fans. Japanese nationals posed for a picture of themselves holding a banner of the movie in front of a theatre in Hyderabad.

Described as a blend of the Hindu epic Mahabharata and science fiction, this high-budget movie premiered in six languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and English. The film stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, with supporting roles by Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, and Shobhana. Produced by C. Aswani Dutt under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is distributed in Kerala by Dulquer Salmaan's production company, Wayfarer Films.

Released theatrically on 27th June 2024, the film collected a total of Rs 298.5 crores on its second day. Inspired by Indian mythology, this futuristic sci-fi tells the story of three worlds - ‘Kashi’, 'Complex' and 'Shambhala', depicting a journey spanning millennia from the epic events of the Mahabharata in 3101 AD to 2898 AD.

Prabhas appeared as 'Bhairava', Dulquer as 'Captain', Deepika Padukone as the heroine 'Sumathi', Amitabh Bachchan as 'Ashwatthama', and Kamal Haasan as 'Yaskin'. Disha Patani played 'Roxie'.
