Mammootty confirms delay: When will Kalamkaval hit theatres?

#Entertainment Desk

Mammootty posted a new update on social media, confirming that Kalamkaval will not release as planned this month. A poster featuring a vintage third-generation Honda Accord with the text “Arriving Late!!! New Release Date Will Be Announced Soon” hinted at an unavoidable delay. The film had originally been scheduled for a theatrical release on 27 November 2025.

Why has Kalamkaval release been postponed?

According to reports, the film’s digital rights have not yet been finalised, prompting the makers to reconsider the theatrical rollout. As of now, there is no official statement from the production team regarding a new release window. Industry trackers suggest that the final date will be announced in the coming weeks.

What is Kalamkaval about?

Directed by debutant Jithin K Jose, Kalamkaval is a gritty crime thriller. The story follows a team of police officers deployed to a remote border village in Kerala to manage tensions between two rival communities. During their mission, they uncover a much larger and more dangerous criminal operation centred around a single individual.

Earlier speculation suggested the film might draw inspiration from the real-life crimes of Cyanide Mohan, but the makers have dismissed these claims as unfounded.

Who’s in the cast?

The film stars Mammootty and Vinayakan in lead roles, alongside Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan, Aravind SK, and Shruti Ramachandran. The team also revealed that Prithviraj Sukumaran was initially considered for the role eventually played by Vinayakan.

Mammootty was last seen in Bazooka, released on 10 April 2025. The film received a mixed response and underperformed at the box office, and it has yet to premiere on any OTT platform.

Next, the veteran actor will appear in Patriot, a spy-action thriller directed by Mahesh Narayanan, featuring Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, and Nayanthara. Reports also indicate a potential future collaboration with legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
