67 movies at IFFK today including Jeo Baby’s ‘Kaathal-The Core’

Thiruvananthapuram: 67 movies will be screened at the IFFK on Sunday. Notably, Malayalam movie ‘Kaathal-The Core’ in which Mammootty and Jyothika are playing the lead roles will have its first screening at the festival today. The Jeo Baby directorial which was released a couple of weeks ago had a warm reception in theatres across Kerala. The film will be screened under the ‘Malayalam Cinema’ category. 

Apart from Kaathal, Anand Ekarshi directorial ‘Aattam’, ‘Yavanika’ directed by KG George, 1960 release ‘Olavum Theeravum’ and ‘Ennennum’ directed by Shalini Ushadevi will also be screened today under the Malayalam cinema category. ‘Five First Dates’ directed by Rinoshan will also be screened again today.

On the third day of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), five films from the international competition category will be showcased. These include the Japanese film 'Evil Does Not Exist,' the Azerbaijani fantasy film 'Sermon to the Birds,' 'Sunday' by Shokir Kholikov, 'Achilles' by Farhad Delaram, and 'Prison in the Andes' by Felipe Carmona.

Ryusuke Hamaguchi's 'Evil Does Not Exist,' an Oscar-winning Japanese film that premiered at the Venice Film Festival, is best characterized as an anti-capitalist and environmentalist allegory. The film focuses on the arrival of industrialists in the village of Takumi, sparking conflict. 'Achilles' explores the political turmoil in Iran and the emotions of its characters. It tells the story of a former filmmaker, now employed as a medical worker, who assists a political prisoner in escaping her jail-like existence. Hilal Baydarov's 'Sermon to the Birds' revolves around Davud and Sura, who are under siege in the forests of Azerbaijan, waiting for the Hunter to save them. The Uzbekistan film 'Sunday' depicts the disrupted life of an elderly couple when their sons plan to demolish their old house.'Prison in the Andes' narrates the story of criminals who fear losing their lives in jail after one of the inmates gives a TV interview, causing an unexpected backlash.

Apart from this, 11 other Oscar entry films including ‘Four Daughters’, ‘Monk and the Gun’, ‘Perfect Days’, ‘Inshallah A Boy’, ‘The Promised Land’ and ‘Opponent’ will be screened today at the film festival in Thiruvananthapuram.
