Jason Sanjay, son of actor Vijay, has opened up about his only relationship, revealing that it lasted around a year and a half before he and his partner mutually decided to go their separate ways. The filmmaker also spoke about how he dealt with the breakup while studying filmmaking overseas and how he eventually immersed himself in his directorial debut ‘Sigma’.

Jason is currently promoting ‘Sigma’, which marks his debut as a director. In a recent conversation with VJ Siddhu, he spoke candidly about his personal life and revealed that he has been in just one relationship so far.

Jason Sanjay recalls his only relationship

Looking back, Jason said the relationship began during his college years and lasted for approximately 1.5 years.

“There was only one love. It was a long time ago, when we were in college. We were in love for about a year and a half,” he said.

According to Jason, the decision to end the relationship was mutual. He said the two of them discussed the situation before eventually deciding to part ways.

He turned to Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs after the breakup.

At the time, Jason was studying filmmaking overseas. Recalling how he dealt with the breakup, he said music became one of his ways of getting through that phase.

The filmmaker revealed that he would listen to Yuvan Shankar Raja’s love songs during that period. He also consciously stayed away from social media, particularly Instagram, to make sure neither of them slipped back into the relationship.

“I didn’t have any plans to post stories on Instagram. If we post stories after the breakup and then reconnect, we can’t get out of it. So we kept a distance between us. I always control myself to not do things that I don’t want to do,” he said.

‘We move on with our lives’

Jason said he has no bitterness about the relationship and is at peace with how things eventually worked out.

“I’m okay now. It was good at the time. We move on with our lives,” he said.

Interestingly, Jason also linked that period of moving on with the next phase of his career. He said that after the relationship ended, he became increasingly focused on filmmaking and eventually got busy with his debut project.

“After that, I got busy with Sigma,” Jason said.

All about ‘Sigma’

‘Sigma’ is an action-adventure heist comedy starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead. The film also features Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee.

The film has music by S Thaman, cinematography by Krishnan Vasant, editing by Praveen KL and VFX by Hariharasuthan. It is produced by Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner.

‘Sigma’ was originally scheduled for a July 31 release but was postponed to avoid a clash with Vijay’s final film, ‘Jana Nayagan’. The film eventually arrived in theatres worldwide on October 2, marking Jason Sanjay’s first release as a director.
