The highly anticipated film 'Param Sundari,' starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, has run into controversy just as it was gaining momentum from its well-received trailer and soundtrack.

The film has landed in controversy after a Christian group objected to one of its scenes, claiming it hurt Catholic sentiments.

What is the controversy about?

According to a Mid-Day report, the Watchdog Foundation has raised objections to a romantic scene in the film set inside a church. The group has demanded in writing that the sequence be deleted not only from the movie but also from its promotional material, including the trailer and songs.

The Foundation has reportedly written to the Mumbai Police, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and the Maharashtra government seeking action.

The group has also questioned how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared the scene in the first place. It warned of public protests if the makers fail to remove it from the film.

In its letter, the Watchdog Foundation further demanded that an FIR be registered immediately against the producer, director, and actors under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Catholic community.

The film

Param Sundari is directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner. The film was originally slated for release on 25 July 2025, but has now been rescheduled to 29 August 2025.
