The official trailer of ‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala’ has dropped, offering a gripping preview of the courtroom drama led by Anupama Parameswaran and Suresh Gopi. Alongside the new trailer, the film’s revised title has been confirmed and its release date announced, it will hit cinemas on July 18.

Helmed by debutant director Pravin Narayanan, the legal drama centres on a woman’s pursuit of justice following a traumatic incident. Anupama Parameswaran plays the titular character, while veteran actor Suresh Gopi portrays the fierce advocate defending her case in court.

The trailer showcases Suresh Gopi in full form, reminiscent of his iconic roles from the past, delivering hard-hitting lines such as, “No matter who tries to protect them, I will stand against them and they will be crucified in the court of justice.” The scene is set against visuals of him engaging in a ritualistic performance featuring a Goddess figure. In another standout moment, he declares, “The government has to answer.” The trailer concludes on a powerful note with the line, “her voice must be heard here now!”

Madhav Suresh, son of Suresh Gopi, appears in a prominent role alongside Divya Pillai, Askar Ali, Sruthi Ramachandran, Baiju Santhosh, Kottayam Ramesh and Shobi Thilakan. The film has received a U/A 16+ certification from the CBFC following significant delays caused by the title-related dispute.

Originally titled ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala’, the film was forced to undergo a name change after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised objections. The board argued that naming a rape survivor “Janaki”, an alternative name for Goddess Sita, could hurt religious sentiments. The makers eventually agreed to the altered title, muting a scene featuring the name in a key courtroom exchange.

Backed by J Phanindra Kumar and Sethuraman Nair Kankol under the Cosmos Entertainments banner, the film’s technical team includes cinematographer Renadive, editor Samjith Mohammed, and music composer Ghibran. Gireesh Narayanan is credited with the film’s soundtrack.
